Recently Zone-H have been playing with VOIP, specifically the SIP protocol which is powering everything from VOIP hardware phones, wifi and software based "softphones".

We were always searching for new utilities and tools and ran across a freeware VOIP security and protocol tester.

SiVuS provides a very robust platform to perform remote and local VOIP/SIP assessments.

It has a visual interface and many options including remote device discovery and enumeration [pic 1], SIP message generation [pic 2] , vulnerability scanning  [pic 3] as well as logging features. We spoke to Peter Thermos who is also involved with The VoSIL initiative and he commented that the tool was responsible for finding a  vulnerability in a LinksysVoIP gateway deployed by Vonage.

He commented that new versions will have an enhanced design for scalability and expansibility. In addition, it will incorporate a larger database of test cases and support of additional VoIP protocols.  We think SiVuS is a must have for anyone interested in VOIP security testing as it will also help round out your security toolkit. Currently it is available as a windows executable, but the new versions will be available for Linux and Windows platforms.
