As Chilean Police chief Gerardo Raventos commented to the Associated Press, the suspects hacked over 8.000 web sites under the nicknames “Byond Hackers Team” or “Byond Crew”, but Chilean police haven’t determined yet whether in attackers’ intentions there were “information stealing purposes”. According to Zone-H digital archive, the Team have hacked 8.042 websites since February 2006 The recorded attacks are defacements that according to the attackers themselves where carried out mainly because they wanted “to be the best defacer” or “for fun”, whereas some attacks dating back to their earlier activities are declared to be aimed by political or patriotic reasons.
The attackers, who were caught because of a series of errors that allowed the police to trace them back , were soon identified: the 23-years-old Leonardo Hernandez, as known as Nettoxic, who is wanted in several countries, was acknowledged as the leader of the group. The list of the websites that were hacked by Byond Hackers Team includes several institutional web pages such as those run by Argentinean, Bolivian, Colombian, Peruvian, Turkish, US and Venezuelan Governments. Moreover the message used for the attack is always the same, on a black or white background: "Lebanon-israel...STOP! No warpeace, that's all This is a cyber-protest,
we are : Xtech Inc (Argentina-Mexico-Germany) - eno7 (Turkey) - hackbsd crew (cuba-republica dominicana) - byond crew (Chile) View the mirror of the attack on Santafe.gov.ar page.
The guys were arrested in their home cities: Santiago, San Bernardo and Rancagua and according to the prosecutor who is leading the investigations, they will be charged with “Electronic Sabotage” risking up to five years in prison.
