Digital implication of the Attack to Lebanon: It’s cyber war
Tuesday, 01 August 2006
Hundreds of web sites have been attacked in last days as a protest against bombing attacks by Israel against Lebanon. The largest part of web intrusions were defacements - web intrusion at any level by which a web page is replaced by the attacker’s message- against Israeli and U.S. web sites.
Zone-H registered last week
a hike in the number of defacements both against Israeli and American
commercial or governmental websites, among which there are the NASA
website, the Berkeley University website and many other military
websites.
Among the intrusions recorded since july 13th, about 8000 are politically motivated, whereas almost 1500 were due to patriotism.
In more then 1100 defacements the conveyed message is specifically related to the war
But the most characterizing aspect in this issue is that intrusions doesn’t come just from Turkish, Kuwaiti, Moroccan hackers or just from those belonging to the Ummah, the community gathering Islamic people from all over the world.
Actually, the mobilization is wider that what everyone could expect, and it concerns people of different religion and nationality.
For instance, the NASA website was hacked by a south American team known as Beyond hackers team, that replaced some web pages by posting their message against the attacks:
“No war
This is a cyber-protest, we are : Xtech Inc (Argentina-Mexico-Germany)- eno7 (Turkey)- byond crew (Chile) - hackbsd crew (Cuba-Dominican Republic) defaced by byond crew - Chile “
The message and the related photos, are published in Zone-H archive .
Some defacements seems to encourage an intervention to stop the attacks: the plea by EL_MuHaMMeD , for example, focuses on Palestinian families’ condition through images and words:
“Europen Union and United Nations being silent to this don't shut up to this oppression..!! When someone make a movement it's a blame but Israel make it WHY everybody is silent... “
A selected list follows, reporting those defacemets politically motivated or inspired by patriotism, that convey messages about the war.
