Beijing government has just banned the opening of new Internet Cafès in 2007, Reuters news service reported today. Chinese authorities declared that a similar decision was due to their concern about the increase of cases of Internet-addiction and Juvenile crimes linked to web activities. Actually, China has registered an alarming rise in the number of teenagers and young adult Internet addicts: for example, a case of deathly internet-devotion dates back to last week when a 26-years-old man died after a "marathon" online gaming session . In 2007 Estonia held its and the world's first national Internet election. Previously in 2005 Estonia had held (and successfully tested) the first local e-lection . This time voting was allowed from February 26th to 28th and a staggering total of 30,275 citizens (3.4%) used Internet voting.
While the rest of the world (Germany at first place) is skeptical on adopting such technology to master the political elections, Estonia - in its usual rush for the implementation of the technology in every aspect of the social life - decided to go "full steam ahead". In this view, Estonia is not new to such stunts which eventually resulted in putting the country in the frontline of all the possible technological experiments among which: Write Comment (1 Comments) |

During last two weeks, security experts have registered several digital incidents provoked by a worm with Trojan capabilities that is infecting both Enterprise systems and home computers. The worm was named “Win32.Agent.wj’ and works by copying itself to the root folder of USB flash Drives, MP3 players and other removable storage devices in the computer. The worm creates then an ‘autorun.inf’ configuration file which enables the malicious code when the infected drive is inserted into another computer. Every time an infected computer is started, the worm too is run automatically and a text in Chinese is displayed on the desktop for some time. The Worm conceals itself with the help of Windows "SetFileAttributes" and tries to evade detection. Write Comment (3 Comments) |

Five years ago, we launched the first, raw version of Zone-H. What an exciting day... A single Solaris 500 mhz machine located in Estonia, a 1-megabit line that handled all the incoming traffic.
This happened at a time when we had just a few hundreds of visitors per day. From then on, we have been constantly growing in audience, that’s why two years later we decided to go live with other language versions (Russian, French) and to migrate the website to a new hosting server with better performances. Our efforts have been soon repaid by an even larger audience, so large that many other requests to open new language editions kept arriving to our mailbox... Write Comment (3 Comments) |

In a move similar to the Lynn vs Cisco scandal of 2005, security firm IOActive is being blocked to give their presentation on RFID security at the upcoming Blackhat Federal 2007, to be held in Arlington, VA this upcoming February 26-March 1.
Chris Paget, Head of IOActive's R&D facility, was to demonstrate a homebrewed RFID cloner, made from cheap, easy to find electronics. The cloner can read information from a variety of RFID devices within close proximity to the device, but specifically, those made to specifications from access card manufacturer HID .
Mr Paget was to deliver notes and schematics on how to build a similar device as part of his presentation, and evidently this is what, specifically HID is concerned about.

The story we are dealing with, is not a pure “hacking case”, but it is interesting to consider how certain skills about computers can be used to do “personal justice” in our little litigations and, literally, where they could lead… Frustrated lovers! Rejected suitors! Deceived “neckers”! Now it's your turn to take a digital revenge: if you have got a computer, basic “hacking skills” and you are ready to spend some years in the army, you can get even with inconstant, cruel girls - and also keep your record clean.
